About Welcome Home

Established in 2016, Welcome Home Jersey City is a community-based nonprofit organization that provides educational, employment and material support for refugees, asylees and asylum-seekers in the Jersey City area. Welcome Home operates from the philosophy that all people deserve the dignity of a decent home, and the resources they need to make a better life for themselves. Welcome Home believes our community needs to help our new neighbors adjust to their new environment. As such, our goal is to facilitate our clients’ successful integration into the community by augmenting and extending services provided by resettlement agencies.

Home to the Statue of Liberty and one of the most diverse city in the country, Jersey City, New Jersey is uniquely positioned to welcome people from all over the world. By partnering with local government, businesses, and other like-minded, nonprofit organizations, Welcome Home helps to provide refugees and asylees with the support they need to attain long-term success in this country.

WHAT WE DO

Welcome Home funds, organizes, and runs a weekly enrichment program called Fun Club. This program includes:

  • A different group activity every session for families and volunteers alike to participate in
  • Community outings on off weeks when possible, which has included a trip to the circus, beach, and to the Turtleback Zoo

Welcome Home also provides ongoing educational, employment and housing support to refugees and asylees families who have been resettled in Jersey City. Some of our other services include:

  • Cleaning and furnishing apartments for new arrivals
  • Teaching ESL classes and providing individual tutoring and support
  • Funding summer camp programs
  • Organizing an annual back-to-school drive
